The power of personalized aromatherapy shouldn't be limited by geography.
So you want to offer online aromatherapy consultations? Smart move – it's a great way to reach clients regardless of location and build a practice that isn't limited by geography.
Let me share some real talk about virtual consultations. The biggest challenge? Creating that personal connection through a screen. But with some thoughtful preparation, you can make these sessions just as effective as in-person ones.
First, nail your tech setup. You need reliable internet, good lighting (facing you, not behind you), and a professional-looking background. Test your video platform before client sessions to avoid awkward technical difficulties. I learned this the hard way after my first client stared at a frozen screen for five minutes!
Send intake forms well before the appointment. This gives you time to review their information and do any research on specific conditions they mention. Nothing impresses clients more than feeling you've really prepared for them specifically.
During the call, look directly at your camera (not at your client's face on screen) to create the feeling of eye contact. Speak clearly and a bit more slowly than you might in person – sometimes audio lags can make fast talkers hard to understand.
The trickiest part of virtual consultations is the scent assessment. I handle this two ways: either send small sample vials before the consultation or guide clients through describing scents they already know they like or dislike. You'd be surprised how much you can learn from knowing someone loves the smell of fresh laundry but hates cinnamon!
When creating their custom plan, share your screen to show images of the oils you're recommending or demonstrations of application techniques. This visual element helps clients feel more connected to the process.
For shipping products, be super clear about timeframes and provide tracking. I include a handwritten note with each package – it adds that personal touch that's so important when you haven't met face-to-face.
The follow-up is even more important with virtual clients. Send a quick email a few days after they receive their products to check in and answer any questions.
Trust me, once you get comfortable with the format, online consultations can be incredibly rewarding. Some of my most dedicated clients are people I've never met in person!
Enjoy the Journey!
